SUCCESS STORIES
Angie
Angie’s ties to Stacey Borden and New Beginnings Reentry Services goes far beyond our residential program. Stacey had the privilege of knowing Angie during her incarceration—Angie assisted her while she was serving her state sentence, offering guidance and support. When Stacey was released in 2010, she made Angie a promise: to fight for her freedom.

That promise became a mission. Stacey and NBRS worked alongside Participatory Defense Organizing and Families for Justice as Healing, relentlessly advocating for Angie. In 2022, after years of legal battles and unwavering determination, Angie was freed after 31 years of unconstitutional imprisonment.
That same year, New Beginnings launched the Residential Reentry Program, a space dedicated to healing, empowerment, and rebuilding lives after incarceration. Angie became one of the first participants, fully embracing the program’s resources and support system. Within a year, she successfully completed the program, demonstrating the power of second chances and the strength of the human spirit.

Today, Angie works at Families for Justice as Healing and provides court support to those who are wrongfully convicted. Her story is one of triumph over an unjust system, and she continues to be an inspiration for so many seeking a new beginning.
